Worksop Bus Station - Paul Horn Interview

Paul Horn came in today and spoke to use about the Worksop bus station build. When interviewing him, he didn't really put many parameters on what we could do other than the back lighting which he said would be bog standard and plain. He also mentioned how they are putting coloured seats inside and he was keen to tell me he would like the colours of the curtain walling to compliment the colours inside.
Personally, I think with him not putting any parameters on the design it will be really hard to find my feet with the starting stages of the project however, once I've started to get into the project more my idea will get stronger and stronger as the project goes on. I am also interested to see what other clues he is willing to hint at as the project gets closer to the dead line.

London Trip

We got on the bus at approximately 6:00 however, we had to wait for someone to turn up so we set off slightly after we sat down.
At half 8 we went to North Hampton services and had a McDonalds breakfast and set off again half an hour later. We then didn't stop again until design your future.
This is where I spoke to lots of university students and tutors that told me about there specific photography course. Which gave me an indication on where I would like to go to university. My first choice in university is ual which is based in the centre of London and my second choice is Nottingham Trent as its a good university and its closer to home however, I don't see that as much of a positive factor. We left design your future at about 12/ half past and set off to the Tate modern art gallery.
On the way there we went past the poppies which was the most interesting thing we saw on the way to Tate.
When visiting the Tate we walked past lots of buskers who were really irritating so we went into the gallery.
there wasn't much of interest in the Tate as I'm not really interested in fine art. So we then set off again to the natural history and V/A which were both interesting however the natural history  was the most interesting and my favourite bit of it was the earthquake area and the dinosaur/ ice age area.
we then set off back home at about 6:17pm due to someone being late.
we stopped off at the services and changed buses and got home at about half past 10.

Abstract Art

Abstract art work isn't about how well painted, drawn or made. Its all about what it stands for and the emptions behind it for example pinks and blues to represent genders and black and white to represent equality. abstract art also contains different techniques such as, the push pull theory which is all about intensity of colour between and large and small object/shape an example of this would be a large blue square coloured in lightly and next to it a small red square coloured in intensely therefore both squares have equal surface area and it makes your eyes constantly switch between the two. there are also simpler techniques such as, reflecting which is pretty self explanatory. However, the more elaborate techniques often produce the between more dynamic work as expected.

UCAS University choices 11th november 2014

The two subject areas I will be looking into are photography and video/film. The universities I will be looking at are UAL, Nottingham Trent, Hertfordshire and south Wales because the courses these universities provide interest me. However, if I was to go to UAL or Nottingham Trent I would be looking more into the photography side and if I was to go to Wales or Hertfordshire I would be looking at videography and filming. I've separated the universities like this because each of these universities has much different courses and works with different people for example, Hertfordshire works directly with warner brothers and Wales does a lot of filming for the BBC whereas London is the main place for all successful art and design based businesses. so each of my choices at the moment have their positives and negatives.

Henry Moore

Henry Moore is a sculpture from England. He best know for his abstract bronze sculptures which are located world wide.
Henry tended to sway towards more abstract human figures, mother and child to be exact. Henry also like to use negative energy by putting holes and piercings in his sculptures to add more of an abstract effect.
Henry Moore's work doesnt look very appealing to the average person but when you begin to look deeper into his sculptures you then start to understand and see the figures he is trying to pertray. Although many I still can't see.
Moore seemed to start his sculpting career whiles the was at Leeds school of art where they made him his own sculpting studio which he could utilise to his full potential. During his school/college days he met many future rivals such as, Barbara Hepworth. However at his young nieve age he didn't think much of it and continued to experiment and maximise his already evident sculpting skills.
Moore and Hepworth both followed similar educational paths as they both followed the romantic Victorian style, which included natural forms, landscapes and figurative animal modelling. This is around the time Moore got bored with the idea of traditional sculpting and began to look at artists such as, Jacob Epstein and Frank Dobson who showed him that his mark making on his drawings could be translated through to his sculptures. He could use his carving tools to gouge and slice holes and patterns into his sculpture which gave his sculptures a more dynamic effect.
Many people at the time didn't appreciate his modern approach to sculpting including his tutors. However, he continued and became more successful than any of his college and university tutors. Which says tells me that originality and persistence is key to doing well in the art industry.
