Brand ID Comparisons

these are my brands two main competitors as I'm trying to create a high end audio device which will in theory blow these out of the water. however, it has become apparent to me that these logos don't have a fancy font or particularly flashy logo, it all seems to be pretty simple. one thing i do like about the beats logo is that its using the space around the actual focal point as its canvas. this means the circle could essentially take the colour or image of any situation which is key for advertisement.

my logo has tried to implement the way really high end fashion logos look and the simplicity of the high end audio/music logos look. this was to create a whole new outlook in the music market and will entice the viewer. the reason why I've chose to differ from the likes if apple and dre beats is because the two are already striving businesses and are well know to the public already so if i were to make my logo look too close to one of theres the chance of my product actually doing well would be minimal.

the two logos below are the ones which i took most inspiration from as they portray the very expensive, exclusive brand ID. i also like how one has a completely different logo to its name and the other incorporates the initials of its name into the logo. the louis vuitton products also have the pattern shown below on all of there products and as simple as it is its almost a huge brand logo which in theory will increase the advertisement of the brand.

this is what my detachable logo looks like. although its not the final thing its still showing the simplistic yet high end characteristic features of the logos above. one thing i might try is to create a pattern like the louis vuitton one just as a experiment although i can't see it going much further than just the experiment as it would be difficult to put on the product and may jet seem like a knock off version to louis vuitton.

The difference between an art and a craft!

Chindogu bmx idea/philosophy of the difference between an art and a craft.
To put into context with my chindogu bmx idea I compared jumping a bmx jump to making something out of clay. This is because it's easy to learn how to do both but it's when you see the final out come and think f***ing hell and that's when it changes from a craft to an art form.

Job roles in art and design-Advertising and editorial photographer

This job consists of taking advertising photos that are used to help describe and sell a product or idea. Taking editorial photographs that are used to illustrate and enhance a story or report, used widely in newspapers, magazines, newspapers, books and websites.

Attributes of the job.
•enjoy travel, meeting people and solving visual challenges.
•be able to interpret ideas and stories through original and emotive photographic images.
•understand the principles of composition, and have an appreciation of shape, form, colour and tone
•be organised, practical and creative
•have a clam, friendly attitude, coping well with busy and stressful situations

What do they do?
Produce advertising photos that support a marketing idea which will answer and support a brief given by a client, a designer or an advertising agency.
This can involve any subject matter, but is often split up into different areas. For example, still life, portraiture and landscape. You will be working in multiple environments using a variety of props and accessories.
Some advertising photographers specialise in producing well-lit product shots for use on packaging and in catalogues. These are called 'pack' or 'pack shot' photographers.
Other advertising photographers may choose to be self-employed and often operate their own studios. They are commissioned to produce high-quality photographs that sell the benefits of a product or better the awareness of a brand. They secure new work on the strength of past campaigns. Their original  original outlook on the subject matter is based on a thorough knowledge of the history of visual arts and advertising photography.
They often specialise in a specific area such as, food, furniture, cars and engineering. They they continually market themselves, through agents (who take a percentage commission in favour of getting you the work), personal contacts and other forms of networking.

Qualifications?
There isn't a set qualification to be a advertising or editorial photographer. Your career is pretty much lead by having a strong portfolio, track record and reputation.
There are many college courses around the uk which could provide you with a sound technical grounding, as well as a work placement in the field.
If you are thinking of taking a higher educational course in photography, the following courses have been rigorously assessed by the photo imaging industry.

Thoughts and interpretation about Heath robinsons work

Heath Robinsons work shows mechanisms that are really unnecessarily complex such as,
These 3 illustrations from Heath Robinson. Taking this into consideration I have the idea too make a short action sports video showing off the aspects of useful inpracticality e.g- http://youtu.be/8nqdn8xfd_Q
This is the documentary of the rider talking about the video and what was going through his head during the project. http://youtu.be/cyA4vRbwLq0
This is the link of the actual video.
There are also different and simpler things in which BMX and all other action sports show inpracticality in another example is http://youtu.be/AjVAemENLXY
There is no actual reason to do any of this but personally I think it's the feel of accomplishment and inpracticality that this relates too heaths work although it's not a very direct link to his work these videos have the key objective I think Heath was trying to get across to the viewer.

This is one of my ideas for the mock fmp

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lOGqZAMHS-M
Basically starting with a domino effect and finishing with a photo. I've decided on this because it symbolises the element of inpracticality with simple tasks which was inspired by Heath Robinson, rube Golberg etc.

Product/Brand ID worksheets!

In this series of photos from my worksheets it shows mainly the progression of my logo as I had that many ideas to start with I thought I'd be better too get them all out early on so that I'd know which ones worked or not and I could then focus on the packaging side of things. It also shows my product area which is a earphone box/pack. Although now I have moved away from the idea of a self-coiling mechanism which would make putting earphones away easy but wouldn't be appropriate for all earphones as some have different length/thickness volume stations.

Template!

These are the first simplistic templates I did as samples for the packaging for my earphone case. I chose a cuboid because it's a simple easy design and it's easily stackable on shelves etc. I created the template for this in illustrator and used the shift key too get perfectly straight vertical and horizontal lines, I also used exact measurements for each section of it. All the squares were 40x40 and the rectangles were 40x125 and the tabs were 15x125 or 15x40 because I had two tabs on each end of the cuboid. The tabs also slightly faced inwards so that there were no issues getting into it.

Chindogu/Heath Robinson Project artist research

Here is a little bit about 3 of the artist I've chose too influence a part of this project. One half idea for this project is too create a video that has the sort of domino effect idea incorporated into it. The reason I chose these artists I because they bring something slightly different to the kinetic art table and incorporated with the domino effect idea I think it would be a really effect piece. Also as this my mock fmp I would like the piece to finish up taking a photo as that's my subject area.

Action Plan!

the plan is too use layers of tin foil to create my stamp as tin foil is in fact made out of aluminium which has a melting point of 660 degrees C. this means it should in theory be able too keep its shape at 65 which is the temperature i need to get too.

ill leo need to wet the leather i am using so it will loosen up and be able too compress. also ill need to buy actual stamping leather because normal garment leather doesn't stamp all that well but will be okay for a sample.

hot stamping leather!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azyCKOpdSo0

In the video it explains the melting point of magnesium which is 650 degrees C and why you shouldn't heat it with a naked flame or put it in the oven because if magnesium is heated aggressively above its melting point it explodes! he also goes into reason why you should or shouldn't heat stamp at the end of the product making process. the video also tells you about the temperature in which the stamp needs to be heated too before stamping (65 degrees C). the equipment that is being used is the stamp, the leather, heat gun and clamp/press.

Dada beginning and meaning

Dada started in the mid 19 teens during the 2nd world war. It began in zurich, Switzerland with Hugo ball and Emmy henning. There were a duo of performers Ball played piano and Henning was a singer and dancer. In the unitentional movement there weren't just Hugo and Emmy who were expressing there beliefs through dada. Artists such as, Alfred jarry and Erik Satie.
The roots of dada lay in the pre-war avant-grande. The use combination of cubism, collage, Wassily Kandinsky's theoretical writings and abstractions, detach the movement from the constraints of reality and convention which is what they believed created the war in the first place. The influence Of French poets and the writings of German expressionists liberated dada from the tight correlation between words and meaning. Avant-grande circles outside of France knew of pre-war Parisian development.
Dada aimed to be a anti-art movement almost because the art and mindset that created what was modern art at the time also created the war to what they believe. To give a contextual parallel punk music took the same characteristics as dada and came about the same way. They both began very aggressively wanting to change the norm and then later on became the norm thus becoming pointless because if you are the norm what are you fighting against, you've already won.

Significant product designs

These are a few intricate product ideas which I found on google images. I especially like how they have a meaning to them all be it the first one is a bit dark but it's a good example of a multiple message created by the product packaging it's self. This will entice the buyer even if the juice, shoes etc aren't of as good quality as rivalling products.

Metamorphosis modelling

This is my measured one that I used calipers to try and get as close to the exact shape and size of the original.
This one I did free hand so all of the measurements when done from eye. This one also took the same amount of time as the measured one but as you can see because everything was done free hand it didn't take near as long.

Research into Heath Robinson

Heath Robinson was a British artist who's specialises in cartoon and illustration. He is best know for his highly elaborate mechanisms which would achieve very simplistic tasks.
The work 'Heath Robinson' came round during the Second World War 1914-18 and it means, anything unnecessary complex and implausible contrivance. In the U.S Rube Goldberg is often described in the same way.
Heath Robinson's time and simple materials were his main keys to success as the majority of his work contained anything that was in close proximity to hand such as, string or tape. Due to the world war many materials weren't to hand so he had to make do with the bare minimum which makes his work have a nice 'make do and mend' moral.
Personally, I find his work interesting because it reminds me of a Frankenstein essc creation as its crazy and all over the place yet flawless at the sametime. I can also see how his works being interpreted  into other people's work such as, Wallace and grommet and the music video OKGo.

Mock FMP start - chindogu & Heath Robinson

Chindogu is the genre of art that consists of over done but plausible ideas and products. Heath Robinson is an artist in this sort of field however he came before chindogu and did more illustration work.

Metamorphosis start

Metamorphosis is a epic poem which is split up into 15 different books. the section we are looking at is about Diana and Actaeon which happens to be in book 3. The very few lines about Diana and Actaeon are set between 43 BC and 17 AD which is basically the life and death of Actaeon.
The story of Actaeon and Diana is basically about Actaeon hunting with his friends whilst looking for fresh water and food. Actaeon enters a cave but happens to run into Diana bathing in the fresh water, she splashes him out of anger and turns him into a stag. He rushes out after seeing his reflection. His dogs pick up his scent and kill him whilst his friends cheer the dogs on because they now have food.
