alice in wonderland final piece

this is the final piece for alice in wonderland I've based it on promotional poster for the alice in wonderland film.
the photograph background originally looked like this...

i then changed the levels and curves of it so that the chair isn't visible and the rest of it is pretty close to black. i then cropped the image o that it was more of  land scape image. after this i de saturated the the back ground so it the focus would be on the cats faec and the text. i then added the cat face ant the text to the overall image. 

to conclude, my overall thought process for this image was to advertise so i didn't want to go to into depth with the overall plot but enough so that it would draw in an audience.

Quote for Alice in wonderland final piece

This is the quote that I'll be using to put above the photo I took and the illustration I did. I chose this quote because it almost feels like it is directly applicable to the situation the art industry is in. What I mean by this is that there are still may people who frown at the thought of creativity and change but to move forwards change is needed and the quote sums up just how important our imaginations are. It's easy to follow the crowd but to make a change imagination is needed.

I've looked into caricatures of celebrities because i think it would be interesting to do the characters of alice in wonderland as caricatures for example

Barack Obama 

Bruce Lee

ive chose each of these because they all used different styles for example Barack Obama has a very bold outline and not rely much detailed tonal work yet you can still tell its him. Whereas, the Bruce Lee caricature has a lot of detailed tonal work which makes the piece look even more like him and you can really see the difference between the amounts of effort each artist used. 

illustrator research - John Tenniel

john Tenniel is an english illustrator, graphic humorist and political cartoonist who's work was prominent during the second half of the 19th century.
He illustrated for both alice and wonderland

where in this illustration you can see alice playing with the puppy. 

he also illustrated for alice in wonderland through the looking glass

personally i like his style of illustration which is very dark and detailed with the scales on the dragon and the texture on the trees.

Another Change!

Ive decided to not do photography! and i am moving towards the graphic design/illustration this is because i am not enjoying the type of photography that this project condones. As i like doing sports photography it wouldn't fit into the project properly and if i showed the work to someone it wouldn't jump out and say it was alice in wonderland. basically i want to create a piece of work which directly relates to alice in wonderland.  

direction change

After editing the photos i took 2 weeks ago and drawing up some illustrations to go with them i realised it was the most effective thing for me to do. so i decided to used the blur tool to blur the backgrounds of some of them to try and change the direction slightly, I've also been looking at motion photography and i really like some of the stop motion photos such as,

these two photos are my favourites of the ones i found on google images because they are easily related to something i do outside of college so it would be hard o take my work outside of college and fit it into my social life. also i think it would motivate me more if i based it around something i already enjoy. 

some other techniques i would like to use is verier shutter speeds which would give me images like, 

these images which i think are extremely interesting to look at because of the trails you get and in the dice photo you can see the motion of the dice and how it traveled. 

overall it hunk if i try and implement these techniques into this reject and some of my hobbies and interests then my ideas wouldn't go dry and id be working without thought easier.

my reflection.
in my ideas i took a series of photos in which i played about with 2 to try and make them look more surreal. i one i played about with all the filters and slight colour change. in the other i used the opening tab when you open an image on ps.
next week i will come into the lesson with more photos and some siluettes which represent alice in wonderland.

10/3/2015-
in this session i am going to continue to edit the photos i took last session. i will also be drawing the illustrations up in todays session. personally, i don't really like how this project has stared off because i don't feel like I'm engaging with my ideas, it just feels as if my starting idea is weak and i should try and change direction of this project.

at the end of todays session i have explored many different avenues to combine sports and surreal environments with different photography techniques such as, stop motion and enhancing shutter speed.

Actual Brief Of Unit 87

Section 1:
My subject area is photography and the current research I have done is look into photographers and videographers to help me understand what kind of work they do. I also watched the latest Alice in Wonderland film to try and make myself understand what kinds of things I could do for my project. As the film is loosely base on impossible things which I can translate into making a bmx edit/porfolio because to many people see the things boxers do are widly reguarded as impossible

Section 2:

I'm referencing videographers such as John hicks and Walter peiring, photographers such as and films which have bike scenes in them. The reason for this is because I want to incorporate something I like and Alice in wounderland to start off my project which will then develop into a series of photos and a bmx video/ documentary essc. 

This will be developed further when we go on trips specifically to get references for this project these references will be from artist work and locations we travel to. 

Section 3:

The mtp's I will be using is my camera to take the photos and Photoshop to enhance images in order to make them surreal.

The techniques I'll be using is surrealism and I'll be using a software called Twitter which super slomos videos to the point in which they stop

Greg Moliterno - Photographer

Greg is based in Tempe, Arizona and is 32 years of age.
He began taking photos one year when he was injured due to riding his bike and just wanted to stay on the scene. He doesn't have any preferences about filming or taking photos for example the night and day.

Walter Piering - Photography/Film

Walter is a photographer based in Austin, TX who has travelled the world filming and taking photos. He has completed commercial and editorial assignments on six continents and over 2 dozen countries across the globe. His unhealthy obsession for desert and unending quest to find strange looking people and cultures keep him on the road and off the map for a good chunk of his life.
Walter got a degree from USC but these days the still image is his passion.
He has both the perfectionist and work hard ethic which is a combination which is proven to be either a blessing or a curse. Fortunately he loves what he does with a passion which comes through in his work.
Aside from photography, he also creates video projects and writing.
   

Rutger Pauw

Rutger Pauw is a more well know bmx photographer who took photos for red bull and Nike.
This is a quote from his website "The thing I like most about photography is that it's like riding bikes. It allows me to come up with ideas and tricks I haven't seen before. Somehow that's what has always intrigued me most. It's a little personal victory, maybe unnoticed by others but the feeling of having created something you haven't seen before is why I take photos.

After art school and assisting a top photographer I was fortunate enough to find clients that had me travel the world and meet some amazing people on the way, through work my horizon expanded from my little world of BMX to other sports, finding the same attitude and determination with those people. It also taught me to focus more on the actual photo than on a trick.

Most of the concept photography you'll see on the website is my own, where ever possible I always try to suggest ways to make the outcome look different to clients.

After residing in London for three years I'm currently living in Rotterdam, The Netherlands working for companies worldwide."

This caught my eye as it was almost exactly how I feel at the moment and I feel like I can relate to him in the way that it almost feels like taking BMX photos is the same a riding BMX or any action sport for that matter. it was also interesting as it told me how he got to where he is now which was through art school.

What I Want To Do At The Moment

the subject area I would like to study at the moment is photography. I would like to study photography because before I started college I already found photography interesting so I taught myself the basics and took photos and filmed videos of bmx/scootering which pushed me into using editing software earlier than most people on the course. When starting college I began looking into sports photographers because they are the ones that interest me the most for example, Clem Hencher-Stevens who is a bmx photographer and Nickeh who is a filmer/photographer who started with filming and taking photos of scooters but now films for all general action sports and filmed the likes of tony hawk who is widely renound as the best vert skateboard that ever lived and has several games made revolving around his life. personally I like looking at less known photographers/videographers because they take the photos/videos because they want to and not because they have to. I also like the photographers who were self taught because they tend to have the best motives and have the most interesting storeys to tell.
